LONDON: Jeremy Clarkson, the outspoken British presenter of the 'Top Gear' motoring show, has been suspended by the BBC after he was involved in a 'fracas' with a producer.
Clarkson, who has generated both controversy and profits for Britain's publicly funded broadcaster, was already on a final warning over accusations last year that he had used racist language while filming the show.
"Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation," the broadcaster said in a statement on Tuesday. "No one else has been suspended."
The BBC said Top Gear, which is aired in more than 200 countries, would not be broadcast on Sunday.
A friend of Prime Minister David Cameron, Clarkson became the popular face of Top Gear by mixing a passion for cars with blunt banter and swagger that offended, among others, environmental groups, mental health charities and cyclists.
Clarkson was called before BBC bosses last year after a British newspaper reported he had been heard using a racist word as he recited an old version of the rhyme "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe" to choose between cars in filming two years earlier.
The 54-year old presenter later apologised for any offence caused by the reports about the use of the word.
He wrote in his Sun newspaper column in May that he had been told by the BBC that if he made "one more offensive remark, anywhere at any time, I will be sacked".
But he was back in hot water in October when the show sparked a diplomatic incident between Britain and Argentina, two countries which went to war in 1982.
A Top Gear television crew was forced to flee Argentina after driving a Porsche 928 GT with the registration number H982 FKL - which some people suggested could refer to the Falklands conflict.
Despite or even because of years of controversy, however, Top Gear has become one of the BBC's most successful and lucrative programmes. It was even recognised by Guinness World Records as the most-watched factual television show of all time.
The BBC said it would say nothing further on the matter and Clarkson could not be reached for comment. His manager and his assistant did not immediately return calls requesting comment.

LOS ANGELES: Sam Simon, a co-creator of Fox's long-running hit animated series "The Simpsons" and an ardent philanthropist for animals, died after a battle with colon cancer, his agent said on Monday. He was 59.
Simon won nine Emmy awards for his work as a writer and executive producer of "The Simpsons," the situation comedy that premiered in 1989 and won over a global audience with its portrait of a bumbling father and his wayward family.
"The Simpsons" co-creator Matt Groening, who worked with Simon to develop the show for Fox's (FOXA.O) broadcast channel, said in a statement, "We will miss Sam's phenomenal talents, sharp intelligence, and sly sense of humour."
Executive producer and showrunner Al Jean added, "I personally owe him more than can be repaid, but I will do my best to help every animal I can in his memory."
Doctors first gave Simon three to six months to live when he was diagnosed with incurable colon cancer in 2012. Simon, who had founded the Sam Simon Foundation in 2002, decided to give away his fortune, estimated by media at $100 million.
"I have a desire to help animals," Simon told Reuters last August. "The question of whether it makes financial sense, it's my money and I get to do what I want with it. It's an expensive hobby I picked up at the end of my life."
Growing up in Beverly Hills, California, Simon embraced art and was selling cartoons to San Francisco newspapers while still a student at Stanford University.
In 1988, Simon joined cartoonist Groening and producer James L. Brooks in creating "The Simpsons" prime-time series.
He oversaw the writing staff and helped develop the characters populating the dysfunctional world around the oafish but endearing Homer Simpson: his dutiful wife, Marge, and their children, bratty Bart, overachieving Lisa and baby Maggie.
"Sam helped establish the tone and world of the Simpsons in the early years of this landmark series, and his contributions live on," Fox Television group said in a statement.
The show was a smart social satire built around crass characters and it became the longest-running sitcom on American television.
After four seasons of "The Simpsons," Simon negotiated a deal to leave the show while retaining a percentage of its future earnings, which would bring him between $20 million and $30 million a year. He is still listed as executive producer in the show's credits.
Besides hitting cricket balls out of the parks for fun, South Africa’s sensational batsman AB de Villiers also possesses a great singing talent and had a band of his own too.
A batsman of breathtaking impudence, as well as the skills and the temperament required to back up his creative intent, de Villiers is also brilliant in the field besides keeping wickets for his side. He occasionally tries his luck with bawling and is the ‘golden arm’ for the Proteas.
Besides being a great all-round cricketer, he also takes keen interest in rugby, golf and tennis.
However, not too many people know that he can sing well and for that matter in any language. This video also shows him singing a Bollywood classic – Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge from Sholay.

ADELAIDE: He is barely able to run without a grimace, wears a brace to hold up his creaking knees and walks gingerly between overs, but Mashrafe Mortaza refuses to give up on Bangladesh at the World Cup.
The 31-year-old captain and pace spearhead has led from the front as the Tigers celebrated their greatest World Cup moment -- a place in the quarter-finals for the first time after Monday night´s 15-run win over England in Adelaide.
The only other time Bangladesh went beyond the first round was in 2007 in the Caribbean, but that was into the round-robin Super Eights following a remarkable win over India in the league stage.
It will probably be defending champions India again that Bangladesh meet in the quarter-final at the gigantic Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 19, and Mortaza will eagerly await the challenge ahead.
It was his four-wicket haul at Port of Spain that sent India crashing out in 2007, reserving his best against a star-studded side that included captain Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.
Mortaza was forced to miss the last World Cup, co-hosted by Bangladesh along with India and Sri Lanka, due to a knee injury -- one of the many he has endured in his 14-year-career.
Mortaza has missed more matches than he has played due to various leg, knee and ankle injuries. At the last count, he has been sidelined 11 times due to injuries and undergone surgery seven times over the last decade.
He has modified his bowling action to lessen the burden on his legs, but the desperation to play and do well for Bangladesh means he has been unable to rest his body for long periods.
"You have to bear the pain if you want to perform for your country," said Mortaza. "But the pain goes away when you do well and the team wins...like against England."
Bowling in short spells, Mortaza claimed the wickets of Alex Hales and Joe Root, both caught behind, to support the four-wicket haul by Rubel Hossain and two more by fellow-seamer Taskin Ahmed.
Mortaza, annoyed by comments in the past that Bangladesh were more dependent on spinners than their new-ball bowlers, said his seamers had not got the respect they deserved.
"Hopefully opinions will change now," said the captain, who has take six wickets in the tournament, including three in the first match against Afghanistan.
Mohammad Mahmudullah, who on Monday became the first Bangladesh batsman to score a World Cup century, said Mortaza was an inspiration for the entire team.
"How many players have fought back from injuries like he has....not once but several times?" Mahmudullah asked. "His self-belief rubs off on all of us."
Bangladesh fly across the Tasman Sea later on Tuesday to prepare for their last league match against co-hosts New Zealand in Hamilton on Friday. (AFP)
HOBART: Kumar Sangakkara became the first batsman to hit four successive centuries in one-day internationals to help Sri Lanka wrap up their World Cup pool campaign with a 148-run romp over Scotland at Bellerive Oval on Wednesday.
His team had already booked a place in the quarter-finals but Sangakkara's insatiable appetite for runs continued unabated as he added 195 runs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (104) against Scotland's limited bowling resources on a perfect batting track.
Down the order, captain Angelo Mathews (51) clobbered six sixes in a 21-ball blitz in the frantic final phase of the innings when ropes were cleared and wickets tumbled regularly.
Freddie Coleman (70) and skipper Preston Mommsen (60) tried their best but Scotland simply lacked the batting firepower to chase down such a huge victory target and folded for 215 in the 44th over.
For Sri Lanka, who rose to second in Pool A with the win, Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Kulasekara justified their selection claiming three wickets apiece.
Earlier, Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first but Scotland did well to restrict Sri Lanka to 46-1 after 10 overs.
Dilshan and Sangakkara counter-attacked near the halfway mark when Dilshan hit Davey for back-to-back fours and followed it with a six.
Sangakkara also accelerated and soon the former captains got into a competition -- who reaches the century first.
Dilshan completed his 22nd ODI hundred in the 34th over with a single that brought Sangakkara on strike and the 37-year-old southpaw achieved his own on the very next ball.
Sangakkara went on to consolidate his position at the top of the tournament's run-getters' list with a scintillating knock that contained 13 boundaries and four sixes.
Dilshan hit 10 fours and a six in his fluent innings before falling to Josh Davey (3-63) in the 35th over.
After Dilshan's exit, Sangakkara hit Alasdair Evans for four boundaries and a six in a 24-run over.
Davey dealt a double blow in the next over, dismissing Mahela Jayawardene and Sangakkara off successive deliveries to become the tournament's highest wicket-taker.
Boundaries kept flowing though as Mathews hammered Matt Machan for four successive sixes to race to a 20-ball fifty before perishing in his quest for the fifth of that 25-run over.
At 216-1 in the 35th over, Sri Lanka threatened to go beyond 400 but lost eight wickets for 147 runs and fell short of the mark.
Sangakkara also went past Australian Adam Gilchrist's (52) World Cup record of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper.

RAWALPINDI: Former Pakistan pace prodigy Mohammad Aamer Tuesday urged young players to be careful of the company they kept to avoid "destroying" their lives, as he prepared to make his return from a spot-fixing ban.
The 22-year-old was due to begin his first game back in domestic cricket on Monday but the first two days in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, not far from Islamabad, were cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
Aamer was one of three Pakistanis banned from all cricket for at least five years for arranging no-balls to order in a Test against England at Lord´s in 2010.
He urged young players to learn from his mistakes and concentrate on the game.
"If you want to achieve something in life you need to be very focused in your goals," he told AFP between fielding drills at the army cricket ground in Rawalpindi.
"In these five years I´ve learnt you need to make good friends in life, have good company, don´t destroy your life."
Aamer, fellow quick bowler Mohammmed Asif and then Pakistan captain Salman Butt were jailed in Britain over the spot-fixing scandal in 2011.
Aamer´s ban was originally due to expire on September 2, but the International Cricket Council used discretionary powers to allow him to return to domestic cricket early, citing his early admission of guilt and cooperation with anti-corruption authorities.
Looking more muscular than when he last played competitively, Aamer said he had been working hard on his fitness and had not lost any of the zest that saw him become the youngest bowler, at just 18, to take 50 Test wickets.
"I haven´t played competitive cricket so far -- when you play in the rhythm of a match you know what speeds you´re bowling at when you´re at a good ground wearing spikes," he said.
"I feel in my practice that my pace hasn´t gone down, it´s going to be the same." (AFP)

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has begun chasing wealthy tax-dodgers who enjoy lives of extravagance and luxury, but revenue officials face huge challenges in trying to force the very richest — and most influential — to pay up.
Pakistan's tax-to-GDP ratio of 9.5 percent is among the lowest in the world and the government is under pressure from foreign donors and lenders, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to increase collection to boost the struggling economy.
Revenue authorities say they have identified about a quarter of a million new taxpayers who they project will add around 14 billion rupees ($140 million) to government coffers.
Broadening the tax base and improving the economy after years of drift and sluggish growth under the last government was a key pledge in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif´s 2013 election campaign, when he was swept to power for a third time.
Currently less than one percent of Pakistanis pay income tax and the government collected just $8 billion in total income tax in the 2013-14 fiscal year — barely enough to cover just the country´s defence expenditure of $7 billion.
The finance ministry is aiming to boost the tax-to-GDP ratio to 15 percent in the current fiscal year ending June 30.
As part of those efforts, the FBR is compiling lifestyle and vehicle data to try to trace unregistered taxpayers, including wealthy landlords and businessmen zipping between their luxury homes in imported Mercedes.
"We are collecting information from the vehicle registration authority, car manufacturers, utility companies, telecom companies and property registration offices and tracing people who are not paying any tax," FBR spokesman Shahid Hussain told AFP.
Taxpayer profiles
The data is used to generate profiles of potential taxpayers, after which demands are issued for them to pay income tax.
"FBR has already issued notices to 261,250 potential tax payers," Hussain told AFP, adding that that new taxpayers have paid 570 million rupees since the crackdown started.
It is not just dodgy businessmen who have been caught — several lawmakers have been found paying either no tax or very little and not filing their mandatory annual tax statements.
The FBR has taken punitive measures against some "chronic defaulters", freezing nearly 300 bank accounts, seizing more than 100 vehicles, putting 78 properties up for sale and issuing arrest warrants in 40 cases.
"Employing information technology, the FBR is creating a central database which would contain information about all taxpayers and nobody will be left undetected," Hussain said.
A new FBR department tasked with broadening the tax net started working in July 2013 and within one year it started showing results, he added.
But Pakistan is a country where wealth and political influence go hand in hand.
For generations, landowners and industrialists have given patronage to political parties and scant attention has been paid to their assets by the taxman.
Changing this privileged arrangement is a tricky proposition.
Umar Cheema, an investigative journalist for Pakistani daily The News who has done several major exposes on tax-dodgers, says the FBR´s commitment is encouraging, but he does not expect them to net any big fish.
´War on tax cheats´
"FBR is after those who can´t influence them," Cheema told AFP, citing several well-known tycoons considered among Pakistan´s richest whose names were missing from a list of the country´s top 100 taxpayers.
"It can be done only by waging a war against tax cheaters without discrimination of good and bad cheaters," Cheema said.
Pakistan´s central bank said in a recent report that tax revenue growth was not keeping up with budget targets.
The tax take grew 11.7 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, against an annual target of 26.9 percent — but this was only half the growth of the same period during the previous fiscal year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The central bank has urged the government to simplify tax procedures and do more to increase the documentation of the economy.
A vast amount of business in Pakistan is done off the books, making transactions hard to trace and levy dues on.
"Although FBR has taken a number of measures to increase tax collection, these focused more on deductions at source, and/or increasing the tax rates," a recent SBP report said, warning such measures had enjoyed "limited success" in the past.
The IMF, though, has said the government´s reform programme — tied to a $6.6 billion loan from the Washington-based lender — was on track, and expects growth to accelerate to 4.3 percent in the 2014-15 fiscal year from 4.1 percent previously.
But even with growth quickening and officials insisting they are making inroads, challenges to the government´s efforts to gather taxes remain considerable.

DUBAI: Bahria Town and K-Electric signed an agreement on Saturday, which will add 500MW of electricity supply for Karachi.
According to the deal inked in UAE, KElectric will set up one coal based and one liquefied natural gas (LNG) based power plant in the metropolis and will supply uninterrupted power to Bahria Town Karachi.
Speaking exclusively to Geo.tv from UAE, K-Electric’s spokesperson Usama Qureshi confirmed that two agreements have been signed, which include setting up of a 300MW coal powered plant and a 200MW LNG powered plant, while the second agreement pertains to supplying uninterrupted power to Bahria Town Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion Ex-Chairman & Founder of Bahria Town Malik Riaz said, “For the people of Karachi, LNG and coal powered plants will be setup and Karachi Bahria Town will receive uninterrupted power supply.”

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said that despite the expiry of an agreement with the K-Electric, power is being supplied to it keeping in view the interest of people of the metropolis.
Speaking to media representatives, he said that K-Electric has the capacity to generate sufficient power to meet the requirements of Karachi. However, it gets 650 MW of subsidised electricity from the national grid, he added.
Asif said the issue will be reviewed in the new contract agreement with the K-Electric.
The minister said the duration of loadshedding has been reduced across the country as compared to the previous year. Industries are being provided with uninterrupted electricity now, he added.
To a question about the funding of Diamer Basha Dam, the power minister said the government will start construction on the project from its own resources.
When asked about violations of Indus Water Treaty by India, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan is vigilant to the situation and will raise the matter at an appropriate forum in case of any violation.

ROME: Italy’s top court on Tuesday definitively cleared Silvio Berlusconi of charges that he paid for sex with an underage dancer and then abused his position as prime minister to cover it up.
After nine hours of deliberations, the judges at the Court of Cassation delivered a ruling that brings to an end a lengthy legal saga which lifted the lid on the “bunga bunga” sex parties the billionaire tycoon and former prime minister organised in his Milan villa.
It also leaves the 78-year-old, who served three terms as premier, free to resume a central role in politics at the helm of his centre-right Forza Italia party.
Berlusconi has just finished serving a community service order for corporate tax fraud and remains embroiled in several other legal cases.
But they are thought unlikely to prevent him from potentially energising opposition to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s plans to reform Italy’s government and electoral system.
Berlusconi was convicted in 2013 of the most serious charges he has faced in a scandal-tainted career, only to be acquitted on appeal a year later.
The quashing of his seven-year prison term and a lifetime ban from public office triggered a counter-appeal by prosecutors to the Court of Cassation.
After a three and a half hour hearing earlier on Tuesday, the judges spent nine hours considering the case before delivering their eagerly-awaited and potentially hugely significant verdict.
The billionaire businessman whose empire includes the AC Milan soccer club, has always denied paying for sex with a 17-year-old dancer called Karima El-Mahroug who went by the stage name "Ruby the Heart Stealer."
He maintained he only tried to help the Moroccan national when she was later arrested for an alleged theft because he thought she was a niece of the then Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
The appeal court appeared to accept that argument when it ruled that Berlusconi had not abused his power. The court also ruled that Berlusconi had not committed a crime in having sex with Ruby as he did not know she was under 18, the legal minimum for a prostitute to sell sex in Italy.

HONG KONG: A bomb threat to a Hong Kong-bound flight with nearly 300 people on board forced the jet to make an emergency landing in China on Tuesday, Hong Kong Airlines said.
"Hong Kong Airlines was notified of a suspected bomb threat onboard its flight HX337 from Beijing to Hong Kong, after the plane had taken off," a spokeswoman from the airline said.
The captain of the Airbus A330-200 decided to divert "in order to ensure the safety and security of the passengers and crew" and landed the plane at around 2:30 pm local time (0630 GMT) in Tianhe International Airport in the central city of Wuhan, she said.
The precise nature of the threat was not immediately known.
"All 295 passengers and crew members of the flight have since safely disembarked," she said, adding that the aircraft had undergone security checks.
Photographs shown on Hong Kong´s Cable Television news channel showed Chinese police officers inspecting the plane cabin earlier in the day.
A spokesman for Wuhan airport´s police told AFP that the airport was investigating the incident, without providing any further information.
The plane was later cleared after security checks to continue its flight, said a Hong Kong Airlines´ statement.
The Hong Kong International Airport website showed that the plane arrived in the southern Chinese city shortly after midnight.

KABUL: At least four people were killed and 20 wounded Tuesday when a suicide bomber blew up his car outside a police station in the capital of Afghanistan´s restive Helmand province, officials said.
A provincial spokesman in the southern city of Lashkargah said the attacker detonated his explosives-packed car after trying to enter a police station.
Spokesman Omar Zhwak told AFP seven people had been killed, although a doctor at a local hospital said they had only received four bodies and 20 wounded.
"The attack killed seven civilians and wounded six, including two police. All the civilians were passers-by," said Zhwak.
"The attacker tried to enter the station, but hit a police vehicle outside the station and detonated."
The bombing comes as Afghanistan has been battling a growing Taliban insurgency since Nato ended its combat mission in December after 13 years of war.
In January, at least 20 people were killed when a mortar hit a wedding party during nearby clashes between Afghan forces and insurgents.
Civilian casualties hit a new high last year in Afghanistan with about 10,000 non-combatants killed or wounded – 75 per cent of them by the Taliban – according to United Nations´ figures.

FRANKFURT: CIA researchers have worked for nearly a decade to break the security protecting Apple phones and tablets, investigative news site The Intercept reported on Tuesday, citing documents obtained from NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The report cites top-secret US documents that suggest US government researchers had created a version of XCode, Apple's software application development tool, to create surveillance backdoors into programs distributed on Apple's App Store.
The Intercept has in the past published a number of reports from documents released by whistleblower Snowden. The site's editors include Glenn Greenwald, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his work in reporting on Snowden's revelations, and by Oscar-winning documentary maker Laura Poitras.

It said the latest documents, which covered a period from 2006 to 2013, stop short of proving whether US intelligence researchers had succeeded in breaking Apple's encryption coding, which secures user data and communications.
Efforts to break into Apple products by government security researchers started as early as 2006, a year before Apple introduced its first iPhone and continued through the launch of the iPad in 2010 and beyond, The Intercept said.
Breeching Apple security was part of a top-secret program by the US government, aided by British intelligence researchers, to hack "secure communications products, both foreign and domestic" including Google Android phones, it said.
Silicon Valley technology companies have in recent months sought to restore trust among consumers around the world that their products have not become tools for widespread government surveillance of citizens.
Last September, Apple strengthened encryption methods for data stored on iPhones, saying the changes meant the company no longer had any way to extract customer data on the devices, even if a government ordered it to with a search warrant. Silicon Valley rival Google Inc said shortly afterward that it also planned to increase the use of stronger encryption tools.
Both companies said the moves were aimed at protecting the privacy of users of their products and that this was partly a response to wide scale US government spying on Internet users revealed by Snowden in 2013.
An Apple spokesman pointed to public statements by Chief Executive Tim Cook on privacy, but declined to comment further.
"I want to be absolutely clear that we have never worked with any government agency from any country to create a backdoor in any of our products or services," Cook wrote in a statement on privacy and security published last year. "We have also never allowed access to our servers. And we never will."
Leaders including US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron have expressed concern that turning such privacy-enhancing tools into mass market features could prevent governments from tracking militants planning attacks. The CIA did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

BUENOS AIRES: Two helicopters collided in mid-air Monday in northern Argentina, killing 10 people including cast members filming a French reality show, officials said.
"There are several French nationals among the victims. So far we only know of two Argentine victims," La Rioja province government spokesman Disel Cuneo told AFP.
Another provincial spokesman, Horacio Alarcon, said that the two helicopters appeared to have collided during filming.
"There are no survivors," he added.
Alarcon said the weather conditions were good and the cause of the crash was unknown.
The crash happened in a mountainous part of La Rioja, whose scenic landscapes are popular with tourists, around 1,100 kilometers (700 miles) north of the capital Buenos Aires.
Argentine media showed the wreckage of the two helicopters in flames on the dry scrubland.

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama on Tuesday nominated veteran diplomat David Hale as the country’s new ambassador to Pakistan.
Hale, currently ambassador to Lebanon, has previously served as the top US diplomat in Jordan and was special envoy for Middle East peace under Obama.
Hale will have to be confirmed by lawmakers of the US Senate before taking up his post.
He would replace outgoing ambassador Richard Olson, who has held the post since 2012.

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain condemned the raid conducted by Rangers on party headquarters Nine Zero and its surrounding areas in Karachi. In a statement the MQM chief was also critical of the arrest of innocent people during the raid.

Altaf appealed to people and workers to not let their emotions get the better of them. He added that details pertaining to Rangers accusations against the MQM would be revealed soon. He added that if God forbid anything happened to Saira Aslam the responsibility would rest on the Rangers.

Altaf further said he had been deeply saddened by the murder of MQM worker Waqas Ali Shah.
In a targeted operation early Wednesday morning, Rangers forces carried out a raid at Nine-Zero, the headquarters of the MQM in Karachi, with the party claiming that several leaders had been arrested.
A Rangers spokesman said a large cache of illegal weapons had been recovered in the “information-based operation” and that several “criminals” had also been arrested.
Speaking to media MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said the weapons seized during the raid were licensed and were being kept by the party for security reasons. According to Sabzwari the MQM had been receiving threats from the Taliban and other militants.
In a statement issued hours after the start of the operation, the MQM’s Rabita Committee said Rangers personnel had forcefully raided and ransacked the MQM’s head office. The party said that several members had been arrested, including central leaders Amir Khan, Abdul Haseeb, Dr Saleem Danish, Arshad Hussain, Dr Ayub Sheikh, and Sindh Assembly lawmaker Rehan Zafar.
Rangers spokesman Colonel Tahir claimed no MQM lawmaker had been arrested, and that MQM senior leader Amir Khan was only kept in custody to explain “the presence of criminal elements” with him.
The MQM announced that it would observe a “day of peaceful protest” on Wednesday, and urged transporters and traders to keep their businesses and commercial activities suspended.

Wali Khan Babar was gunned down in Liaquatabad area of Karachi on January 13, 2011 when he was returning home from office.
Proclaimed offenders Kamran alias Zeeshan and Faisal Mota were sentenced to death.
Colonel Tahir went on to say that amongst the suspects in custody who already have FIRs against them are; Farhan Shabbir alias Mullah, Aamir, Nadir, and Obaid alias K2.

KARACHI: In a targeted operation early Wednesday morning, Rangers forces carried out a raid at Nine-Zero, the headquarters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Karachi, with the party claiming that several leaders had been arrested.
A Rangers spokesman said a large cache of illegal weapons had been recovered in the “information-based operation” and that several “criminals” had also been arrested.

MQM leaders claimed Rangers forces had conducted a “siege and search operation” at the party's headquarters, ransacked its offices and had arrested several leaders of the political party.

Rangers raid unjustified: Altaf

MQM chief Altaf Hussain addressing party workers said the raid on Nine Zero and his sister’s house by Rangers was completely unjustified.
He also condemned the killing of MQM activist Waqas Ali Shah and blamed the Rangers for shooting him, adding that whichever young activist the Rangers could take into custody, they did so without any warrants. He also said that over 60 workers of MQM have been arrested during the raid today.
The MQM chief questioned why no other party’s offices were ever raided in this manner and further said that the party had requested for an army operation in Karachi to stop the killings in the city, however, instead of an army operation a Rangers raid has been conducted.
Altaf Hussain made it clear that MQM has zero tolerance for terrorism and any terrorist elements within the party, adding that, however, if the Rangers still felt MQM was at fault then why not hand over the whole party to the Rangers and hand over Karachi to Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

MQM meets to discuss future course of action
The MQM Rabita Committee is simultaneously meeting in London and Karachi to discuss the party’s future course of action following the Rangers raid.
The MQM is expected to hold a news conference after the meeting concludes.

MQM worker Waqas Ali Shah killed

The MQM has claimed that Waqas Ali Shah, a member of the party's central information committee was killed in the raid.
However, Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo refuted the claims and said that Waqas was not killed by the Rangers and was in fact was shot in the head by a bullet from a small fire-arm.
Thebo said that he was stating information from the post mortem report from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
In an interview to news agency Reuters, MQM leader Aminul Haque claimed dozens of party workers had been picked up by the Rangers.
“Rangers opened fire killing one of our workers, Waqas Ali Shah, and wounding a cameraman from a private news channel,” he added.

History Of Burewala

Burewala derives its name from Chah Boreywala which was established prior to 1912.Burewala is an old Mandi and situated on Dehli Multan Road River Sutlej a crosses Burewala near Jamlera and Sahuka. Derbar of Dewan Chawli Mashickh is also situated in Dewan Sahib at a distance of 18 km. from Burewala. In the very beginning it was just a jungle which was 'humanized' by local tribes called "Langrial". When the Pakpattan canal started its operations in this area, agriculture of the area developed and the jungle was cut to make cultivation fields. And so people started to settle in villages. As this area was in 'Eastern Canal Division' so it was named village no. 439/EB (E.B.= Eastern Bar). In the Northern side of Burewala, there are still signs of an old water canal which is now called Sukh Bias. Why Burewala is called Burewala. There is no clear idea behind the name Burewala. We have different ideas which have their respective logics. We discuss some reasons why Burewala is named Burewala.

  1) This city is named Burewala after a person name Burha. He was, according to some people,' Sikh', some say that he was Muslim and still some others claim he was Hindu. Anyhow, whatever was his religion it is most probably he after whose name this city got its name. Now one question arises where did this gentleman lived?   He lived in a hut at the place where now-a-days railway Station building exists. Some other say that he lived where now-a-days 517/E.B. exists. This village is also called Old Bura or " Purana Boora". The people of this villages constructed a well with a diameter of 8 feet and named it after their ancestor so it was called " Chah Boorhay wala " ( Well of Burha). This well is now included in the P. I. Link canal. Due to this well the new city was named Burewala. At the time existence of Vehari District on I July, 1976.Burewala was upgraded as Sub Division. The areas of Gaggoo, Jamlera, Sahuka and Sheikh Fazal were included in Sub Division. Burewala textile Mill was established in the year 1954. It was soled to Dawood Group in the year 1957.
